Vabalathus (271 - 272CE)

Vabalathus (271 - 272CE). Lucius Iulius Aurelius Septimius Vabalathus Ahenodorus was a king of the Palmyrene Empire, the son of King Odaenathus and Queen Zenobia. Upon his father's assassination in 267, he assumed the Palmyrene throne, but was not granted Roman titles. Aurelian finally granted him those titles in 271, but when Vabalathus and Zenobia assumed the titles of Augustus and Augusta, he marched against them, forced them to surrender, and took them as captives. It is unclear whether Vabalathus died on the way to Rome, or at a later time.
