Valentinian II (375 - 392CE)

Valentinian II (22 November 375 - 15 May 392CE). Flavius Valentinianus was the son of Valentinian I and his second wife, Justina. He became Augustus, at 4 years of age, a few days after his father's death and ruled the West together with Gratian. Valentinian and Justina fled to Theodosius when threatened by Magnus Maximus. Theodosius defeated Maximus and restored Valentinian to the western throne, installing his personnel to watch over the young emperor. Valentinian was found hanged on May 15, 392. It is unclear whether he was murdered on orders of General Arbogast with whom he fought over exercise of power, or committed suicide as some historians claim.
