Carausius (287 - 293). Marcus Aurelius Mausaeus Valerius Carausius was a usurper-emperor in Britain and Northern Gaul who attempted to legitimize his rule by issuing coinage with various propaganda and restoring good silver to coinage. When he suffered a setback by losing the port of Bononia to Constantius' forces, he was assassinated by his finance minister, Allectus, who assumed his power.
