Julian II (360 - 363CE)

Julian II (February 360 - 26 June 363CE). Flavius Claudius Julianus Augustus was a noted philosopher and writer, and is known as Julian the Philosopher although he was also called Julian the Apostate since he strongly favored the pagan religion over the Christian one which he was forced to adopt. He was appointed Caesar by Constantius II on November 6, 355 and was acclaimed Augustus by his troops in February 360 causing a civil war against the army of Constantius. Julian became sole Augustus on November 3, 361 when Constantius died before meeting his foe. He died after being mortally wounded in battle against the Sassanids. He was the last emperor of the Constantinian dynasty and the last non-Christian one.
