Lucius Verus (161 - 169CE)
Lucius Verus (8 March 161 - 169CE). Lucius Ceionius Commodus, who later became Lucius Aurelius Verus, was the son of Aelius and was adopted by Antoninus. He became co-emperor with Marcus Aurelius on March 7, 161. This was the first time that Rome was ruled by two emperors. Lucius was a weak emperor subservient to Marcus whose primary interests were in pleasure and debaucheries. He died in 169 of the Antonine Plague (smallpox).
