Numerian (September or October 283 - November 284CE). Marcus Aurelius Numerius Numerianus was the younger son of Carus. He was named Augustus during the Sassanid campaign. He was murdered in his litter while on the way back to Europe. Praetorian Prefect Arrius Aper, father-in-law of Carus, was accused of the murder and swiftly executed by Diocles, Commander of the Imperial Bodyguards, immediately after Diocles accepted appointment as Augustus.
